We are pleased to announce that The Friends of Chippewa Park have had construction projects approved under four distinct funding programs.  The Projects are as follows:

1. Job Creation Partnership under Employment Ontario

2. Ontario Great Lakes Renewal Foundation

3. Ministry of Natural Resources pollution fines program

4. City of Thunder Bay Capital Grant

The approximate value of the four approved projects is $637,000.00. 

 

CITY OF THUNDER BAY

On July 14th of this year, The Friends of Chippewa Park went to City Council to request that the City of Thunder Bay release the $200,000.00 that Council approved conditionally in June of last year, and also for Administration to allocate that portion of the $50,000.00 in the 2008 budget for RV Park design not required for design work, to the actual construction of the RV Park. 

At 12:55am on July 29th City Council passed Councillor Fould's motion which approved $200,000.00 in funding plus access to the $50,000.00 in this year's capital plus a $10,000.00 loan for payroll - All for The Friends of Chippewa Park's projects

JOB CREATION PARTNERSHIP

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Colleges, Training and Universities (Employment Ontario) this program will provide 8 workers paid by Employment Insurance and a supervisor/trainer paid for by Employment Ontario.  The program will run for 30 weeks beginning on June 16th. .

Projects to be completed by this crew include: Cabin Skirting, Staining all buildings, highway signage, Sleeping Giant Viewing Station, Pavilion Counter, Shower room doors, Relocation of Airport Rocks, Log Posts for Pavilion, RV Park dump tank, RV Park Fit up, RV washroom rehab, RV Electrical, Thunder Bay Hydro Upgrades to 3 phase to Tourist Camp, Sign installation, Picnic Booth materials, Curbing, Chalet Siding, Landscaping, and Solar and security light installation.

ONTARIO GREAT LAKES RENEWAL FOUNDATION

TFOCP have received Grant in the amount of $100,000 from the Ontario Great Lakes Renewal Foundation (OGLRF) for beach redevelopment and sediment control at Chippewa Park.

This program requires 50:50 matching with the Private sector.  TFOCP have commitments from Bruno Contracting for $60,000.00 of work for a payment of $30,000.00;.  The remaining work is the laying of sod and TFOCP will seek volunteer labour from the community in general. 

MINISTRY OF NATURAL RESOURCES 

TFOCP received a small grant of $5,000 from the MNR from fines paid by polluters. These funds will go towards sediment control and will be used in conjunction with the Foundation project on the Beach.
