Chippewa's 90th Birthday - 2011

The year of 2011 will mark Chippewa Park's 90th birthday!  Originally opened in 1921 (see history link), Chippewa Park has sustained itself as a favourite park in Thunder Bay all these years.

The events leading up to this celebration are well on its way.  The first events was Deja Vu Day on June 21st, where former employees came back to relive old memories!

Retired Parks and Recreation Manager, Bill Beavis is joined by City Councillor Larry Hebert and Port Authority CEO Tim Heney in a symbolic return to their old jobs this week.  Bill was the Manager from 1973 to 1986 and was in overall charge of the Park. Larry Hebert worked at the park in 1967 and not only operated the rides but helped install them at the park that year.  Tim, in his younger years sold the ride tickets then was promoted to ride operator.

To celebrate this momentous occasion also, The Friends of Chippewa Park have decided to host a series of reunions through out the whole summer!  Various committees will be created to ensure that your reunion weekend(s) is just as unforgettable as you original time spent out here at Chippewa Park.
